We recently published an article about “celebrating the s” when it comes to hostels, and there are some more s’s that I thought should be celebrated too - Sun, Sea & Sand. If you fancy a bit of budget-friendly beach time and quality accommodation, you need some beach hostel in your life!

Some people hate the beach, something I find hard to imagine, but for those of us who love chilling by the shore, soaking up some sun, and taking a dip in the sea, here’s our pick of just 11 of the many hostels boasting beach-frontage, or within strolling-distance to the sand, available to book on Hostelculture.com – and, of course, with our 5% discount as standard, we’re the cheapest hostel booking site on the planet!

Amistat Beach Hostel – Barcelona

Barcelona’s man-made beach is but one of this beautiful city’s foremost attractions, so be careful not to be lured to it for your entire stay – that said, a hostel base next the beach is never a bad idea and Amistat Beach Hostel is always a good choice. A few foot-steps from the beach & buzzing promenade, and with modern facilities & 24 hour reception, what more could you want?

Zadar is the perhaps a lesser visited Croatian city, with Zagreb, Dubrovnik & Split tending to be more prominent on the minds of visitors to the Adriatic, but Zadar is a deserving contender – a lively university city with youthful spirit & ancient charm in equal measure, it offers beautiful coastline and easy access to the delightful Dalmatian islands. Well, that was fun, I really enjoyed putting this shortlist together, even though I’m now longing to be beach-bound….perhaps if you all comment & share this enough I will be rewarded with a few days off to go building sand-castles.

There are, of course, many more beach hostels to choose from on hostelculture.com - this list is merely a few grains of sand on a veritable dune of hostels near the sea which you can book cheaper than on other hostel booking sites. We could have done multiple versions of this rundown, and perhaps we will yet, but I hope this has inspired you to seek out great hostels and some sun, sea & sand this Summer.
