One of Cologne's most treasured pastimes is its beer, the Kölsch, a special variety that can only be brewed in Cologne. On this tour, you’ll take a journey through Cologne’s Old Town and get to know some of the breweries that perfected the Kölsch and the culture that has grown around it over the years.
Kölsch is no doubt the lifeblood of Cologne as much as the Rhein River. On our beer tour through the Altstadt, we’ll visit some of Cologne’s Iconic Brauhauses, get to know about the history of the waiters who serve the Kölsch, the glasses that it comes in, the local rules about Kölsch, and give you insights and tips that you won’t find elsewhere all while tasting the best Kölsch you can find in the city.
Along the way, you'll learn what makes the Kölsch so unique, and why it is the best beer in the region. You’ll hear the stories that helped make Kölsch what it is today and experience a typical night out in Cologne while you're at it!

We arrived to Cologne early afternoon and we were able to book last minute. My husband was very happy with the tour, tasting and information presents. We were a group of 9 people (5 actual tour participants and 4 others connected with the tour guide.). It was a great experience having so many locals along and sharing their insight. I would definitely recommend this tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, easy to understand and entertaining. Things to note: we booked through Freetour.com. They took a deposit with the reservation but then expected us to pay cash for the remainder due. This info was not provided in advance. Tipping the tour guide for this paid tour was expected just like the free tours. You get three, 3EUR beers on the tour and then pay out of pocket for any additional purchases.

The description states that Kolsch beer tour introduces you to single breweries. We were misled by this, as wd not visit any. However, they were mentioned jn the explanation at a pub. Four pubs visited. Otherwise nice tour.
