Royal Palace: An Exterior Walking Tour in
Old Town Stockholm
Visão Geral do Tour
This is the perfect tour before – or instead of – visiting the Stockholm Palace. Calm and designed to help you understand how everything fits together.
During this 1,5-hour guided walk with a local tour guide, you explore the Royal Palace in Gamla stan from the outside, moving at an easy pace all the way around the building. From the exterior, we explain how Stockholm was founded, why royal power was established right here, and how the Palace still functions today. As we walk, we place the rooms and functions in context – showing how they relate to what you see on the façade. • The Palace’s four façades and what they symbolise: power, religion, nation, and monarchy.
Children under 18 free.
• Architectural details, symbols, and hidden elements in the stonework
• The story of the medieval castle Tre Kronor and the great fire of 1697
• Kings, queens, and how Sweden eventually ran out of kings and brought in a French general, creating the Bernadotte dynasty
• The historic buildings surrounding the Palace
When open, we also step into the Royal Chapel for added context.
A thoughtful exterior walk that turns stone, symbols, and stories into a clear picture of Sweden’s royal history.

Booked this on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. It was easy to follow and the guide explained things in a way that kept it interesting throughout. The guide was really engaging and brought a lot of energy. Felt more like hearing it from someone you already know than a typical tour.
I’ve been to Gamla stan many times, but I had never really understood the Palace in this way. It was a very pleasant walk that gave me new perspectives, even though I thought I already knew most of it.
Well- executed tour. Im not usually a fan of guided tours, but I liked this one because it stayed outdoors and focused on explaining how the building is designed and used, rather than just listing dates. It gave a better understanding of how the Palace actually functions. Would recommend!
