An hour's drive brings us to Khor Virap Monastery. Located in the Ararat plain situated about 100 meters away from the closed Turkish-Armenian border (sealed by barbed wire fencing) and defended by Russian military establishments.
Heading to south east of Armenia and our 2nd stop is the legendary Monastery of the Spear at Geghard. This UNESCO World Heritage site was carved into the rock to house one of the most cherished relics of Christianity.
We continue our drive to Garni Temple, a first century A. D. Graeco-Roman pagan temple probably devoted to Mithra. We may hear Armenian visitors give an impromptu choral concert.
