Visit Alcalá: Mysteries & Legends Tour
Panoramica del tour
When night falls, Alcalá de Henares transforms. The World Heritage City leaves behind the Cervantes of the books and rediscovers its 2,000 years of shadows.
On this tour, you’ll explore the historic center on foot with a local guide who has worked inside the monuments themselves. This isn’t a tour full of cheap scares—it’s the side of Alcalá that isn’t revealed during the day.
We’ll start at the Magistral Cathedral, where the closing staff share strange experiences that the Bishopric doesn’t allow to be recorded, and continue to the Archbishop’s Palace with its Inquisition dungeons and the fire that destroyed the Central Archive.
You’ll pass by the Convent of the Bernardas, the Convent of the Image—where Saint Teresa of Jesus served as prioress—and the Alley of Danger in the Plaza de los Irlandeses, which was closed in the 18th century due to sword duels among students.
You’ll delve into the history of the Hospital de Antezana, the oldest functioning hospital in Europe, with its Chapel of Saint Ignatius and its paintings depicting him casting out demons. We’ll continue through the old Jewish quarter on Calle Mayor, the Capilla del Oidor, the Colegio de Málaga, the former La Galera Women’s Prison, the Lope de Vega Residence, and the Café Renacimiento.
