Biarritz Basque Walking Tour
Aperçu du circuit
Hello! I am Alan, a real Basque. I will show you around Biarritz and the Basque Country, which has a very ancient and special culture. I have been doing tours for two years with great success.
We walk on the seashore. I explain the history from prehistoric Basque to the modern cosmopolitanism of Biarritz. You will understand the 3 centuries of the English kingdom in the Basque land and the loved presence of English and Americans in Biarritz!
We start at the port vieux the rock of Virgin, for an overview of Biarritz. We walk along the coast and enjoy the seashore by the beach. You will see the emperor Napoleon 3 and his Spanish wife Eugenia's palace, where I will tell you the story of Eugenia, the gipsy empress. We end at the city center with a special highlight on Art Deco architecture and the funny 20th century: Chanel's shop, Chaplin, and Picasso.
I am a local Basque with experience in guiding tours. I speak Basque, this mysterious language. I will explain the ancient Basque religion and focus on the Basque land. Please make sure you like Basque topics. My tour is cultural, poetic, and architectural, with humor! Welcome to discover Basque Biarritz!

Alan was excellent. Very knowledgeable. We learned a lot !
Really informative tour particularly if you are keen to learn more about Basque culture and history. Alan is super knowledgeable and friendly!
A thoroughly enriching tour filled with insightful information on the history and culture of the Basque area.
As in Irishman, I've always had a lovely of France and an interest in the Basque culture that straddles the French-spannish Pyrennean borderlands. When we had the opportunity to do a Basque flavoured tour of Biarritz, we snapped it up. When we met Alan for the tour, I could have been forgiven for thinking he was Irish due to his red hair. We found Alan an engaging, informed, friendly guide. Some poignant things that would have passed over my head were highlighted by him on the tour, providing a great insight into Basque culture. He asked us what we were interested in hearing about ourselves. If you take his tour, ask him about what you're interested in, and he'll tailor the tour for you. As well as providing me with great historical and cultural insights using the sights and sounds of Biarritz, Alan also indulged us by allowing us to practice our rudimentary French. We're native English speakers, and he speaks English fluently too, but when we switched to French, he spoke in clear French and encouraged us to use the language. We had such a good time and chat, we stopped to have a Basque cider with him after the tour was finished. A great tour, a knowledgeable tour guide, a gentleman, and an interesting character in his own right, too. Go on the tour and let him know what you want to see or know about and he'll sort it out. Thanks for a lovely afternoon, Alan.
Tour very lacking in content. We expected much more (especially considering the price to be paid in advance).
