On this tour, you will visit the many historic buildings of the Zaanse Schans on a personalized tour with your professional guide from Amsterdam. You will learn about cheese making and the famous traditional Gouda cheese, tasting several delicious varieties of cheese. You will admire the windmills of the Zaanse region, inaugurated in the 18th century, and tour inside a working windmill. You will discover how the mills are used to produce cocoa powder and other foodstuffs. You will explore the wooden boxes and old workshops, admiring their facades painted in traditional shades of green, beige and blue. Zaanse Schans is a veritable open-air museum. You will find the elegant houses of wealthy merchants and mill owners. This museum houses not only working mills, but also wooden houses, barns and workshops dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
