Given the non-existence of Free Tours in Matera we made the mistake of hiring this paid tour, not cheap but all worth the same €30, thinking that it would include much more than a Free Tours. Crass mistake, the guide was totally unmotivated, possibly he had some personal problem in his head, but it was impressive that he repeated phrases unwillingly and even cut the Tour for the minimum visits we made, because he made long stops one after another, after a few meters, without doing anything more than asking for a candy or telling a personal experience. Also, surprisingly, at the end of the tour he asked for a tip as if it were a Free Tour and there were people who gave it to him. I recommend doing the tour on your own, buy a book about Matera and have dinner with the cost of this tour, you will enjoy it much more.
They called us 15 minutes prior to departure telling us the tour was cancelled. Finally as we had a baby they changed opinion and added us to a mixed Italian and English group when we paid for only English. Additionally the tour we went to was 1.30h instead of 2.15h that we paid. The group they put us in didn’t seem to be of the same organization and even more people was added by random guides giving 50€ bills to our guide. Sincerely the organization deserves a 0/10. I recommend 100% visiting Sassi de Matera with a guide, but not with this organization. As a final note our guide was actually great.
We took an English guided tour. Altough the guide did her very best, the size of the group was much too big. With more than 30 people, it is impossible to guide in a qualitative way. But nice guide!
