Zaragoza’s Aljafería Palace Guided Tour
Tour Overview
Explore the Aljafería, Zaragoza’s Islamic gem.
Built in the 11th century on the orders of Al-Muqtadir III, king of the Taifa of Saraqusta, the Aljafería Palace was designed as a place of pleasure and recreation. Known as the Palace of Joy, it is the northernmost Muslim palace in Europe, and its beauty continues to captivate everyone who visits it.
Following the Christian conquest, the Aragonese kings transformed it into the seat of the court of the Kingdom of Aragon, whilst preserving its original elegance. Later, the Catholic Monarchs extended its premises, endowing it with Renaissance splendour.
Centuries of history lie hidden within its walls: it served as the seat of the Inquisition, a military barracks and a symbol of resistance during the Napoleonic invasion.
During the tour, you will visit iconic sites such as the Tower of the Troubadour, the Throne Room of Ferdinand the Catholic and the courtyards adorned with exquisite Mudejar ornamentation.
Let yourself be amazed by this palatial fortress where Islamic, Christian, and Gothic art coexist in perfect harmony.
