Tour Overview

Skopje is the capital of Macedonia. It is situated at a distance of approximately 250 km from Sofia.

During this day tour, you will have the chance to visit one of the most bizarre cities on the Balkan Peninsula. Skopje is a mixture of authentic monuments from the Ottoman period, and new neoclassical buildings, complete with ornate columns and rooftop figures of nymphs. Skopje definitely is a must-see place.

Itinerary: Our day tour will start with pick up from your hotel/accommodation in SOFIA (Bulgaria). After approximately 3-hour transfer, we will reach Skopje. The walking tour of the city will start from Skopje Fortress. Our next visit will be the Church of the Holy Savior, which hides at iconostasis. We will continue towards Sultan Murat Mosques and the Old Bazaar, where we will have the chance to see Caravanserais (inns) from the Ottoman period. We will stop to have lunch at a typical Macedonian restaurant. Afterwards, we will cross the Vardar River and start our exploration of the new part of the city. We will visit the new neoclassical square Macedonia and continue to Mother Teresa memorial house. The tour ends with a drop off at your accommodation.

A tour to remember

I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone. If you're lucky, you'll get Lyubo as your driver. He is very friendly and careful, knows a lot about Bulgaria and its history. He's a very safe driver, even at night. Overall, the 4-hour journey there and 4-hour journey back flew by. In North Macedonia, we saw all the highlights of the city in 4 hours with our friendly tour guide and then had enough time to explore the rest ourselves. It was an incredibly beautiful experience. Absolutly worth a visit!!

A very nice day

The driver was fantastic, friendly, nice, professional, very nice tour I recommend it, the only thing that the guide could give less explanations at the beginning and focus more on taking you to see sites and I found it a lack of consideration to the group that after keeping us waiting a while because he was presented with an incognito police to make an inspection and check if it was an official guide that then began to talk for a while with some acquaintances he met and keeping us all waiting, in the end we decided to continue on our own

Not worth the money

Skopje is doubtless a place to visit and I think the tour is well-organised. However, our experience was a bit disappointing because of our guides. Our Bulgarian guide driving was, sometimes, quite risky: overtaking near bends without clear visibility, accelerating too much within Sofia and speeding. Our North Macedonian guide was all over the place and also his explanations were. It was hard to understand him, we didn't learn much about the country and we were left in a museum when we told him we didn't really want to see it as we have little time to do some souvenir shopping. Also, the Bulgarian guide didn't know who the local guide was. I think this is something the company should know in advance. The price of this tour is unbelievably expensive for what you get. The idea of the tour is great but I guess we were not lucky with the guides and price is too high.
