Tour Overview

1. Pick-up from the airport, by car if no more than 3 participants, by convenient easy train if more than 3. If going by car we visit Sibelius monument and the famous Rock Church on the way to the city centre arriving at the world-famous futuristic Oodi Library (walking tour starts here).
2. The Central Railway Station, Helsinki art deco landmark and its surprises.
3. Aleksanterinkatu: the main shopping street of Helsinki and its unique architecture.
4. The Esplanade and the historic harbour: Helsinki and the sea, Finns and water.
5. A short walk to the Senate Square, heart of Helsinki: Finnish history, politics, religion.
6. Katajanokka neighbourhood and its art nouveau/Jugendstil landmarks
7. Tram detour to the historic Hakaniemi Market and Finnish Food Tasting (home-made fish delights including the iconic salmon soup at the fishmonger's + coffee and pastries at one of the bakeries).
8. Tram trip to Mannerheimintie: Marshal Mannerheim, Finland's superhero of the 20th century.
9. Future in the past: Glass Palace, Chapel of Silence, and Amos Rex, Finnish perception of future at different times.
10. Tour ends at the Oodi library, transfer back to the airport by car/train.
