Tour in Bogota: Guatavita
Tour Overview
Visit Guatavita, a municipality in the department of Cundinamarca, located in the Sabana de Bogotá, in the Eastern Cordillera. The municipality of Guatavita has an average altitude of 2668 meters a.s.l.m. with an average annual temperature of 13.2 °C. The Guatavita lagoon is located in the municipality of Sesquilé, the former Chibcha chiefdom. The Muisca ceremony of El Dorado took place in the Guatavita lagoon. In this ceremony, the heir to the throne of the Zipazgo took possession of the throne, thus acquiring the dignity of Zipa. You will learn about the history of this ceremony and its legacy in the history of the country.
When you finish the tour of the lagoon, you will have the opportunity to visit the charming town of Guatavita, explore its architecture, learn about its history, walk through its streets, see its monuments such as the Plaza de Toros or remember the old Guatavita that disappeared due to the growth of the Tominé Reservoir.
Then I visited the CASA LOCA, a house where everything is upside down, so it will be interesting to take pictures in every corner of the house. To finish, I tasted a delicious typical dish of the region in one of the most famous restaurants of the municipality.
